Good Behavior from Gallaudet Students Essential

A few days late, I had a chance to read the MSA team exit report. This sentence jumped out at me and it is the most important sentence in the three-page report: "The team further stressed that closing an institution through protest, preventing or intimidating students from attending class, or precluding the open exchange of ideas brings the institution out of compliance with Middle States’ accreditation standards, and any further such actions will have dire consequences in terms of accreditation. "

If Gallaudet students needed any incentive to behave well from here on, this is it. Any future grievances must be resolved diplomatically, and not through protests. Davila has already warned the University community of the potential consequences if Gallaudet were to lose MSA accreditation.

The MSA is not analyzing the situation correctly.

Jordan was perpetuating a fraud by rigging the presidential selection process. Fernandes' policies would have put the school in jeopardy.

The protesters *saved* Gallaudet, and thus the protesters are responsible for allowing Gallaudet to continue to exist as a place of free and open communication and exchange of ideas.

This was an emergency circumstance. The MSA is wrong in what they say. Plain and simple.

I think protesting must change, too many are taking direct action with no discussion lately. Peaceful direct action can be valid, vandalism and violence can never be, as it reflects on us all.

We do get more and more access every year to things, yet more and more are not using access to debate and discuss issues but taking confrontational ways instead.

This, attracts those with vested interests and who just like making trouble, the deaf world has them too. Discuss issues first, then afterwards debate if direct action is validated just because you've lost that debate and not just because you haven't won it, straight away, so we'll shut them down approach.

More listening, less shouting.

How many deaf are there on the MSA? Who are they? How long have they known IKJ? They are being unreasonable. Therefore; their analyze is not correct. The Bot, IKJ, DPS,and Adm. officers have proven for their act of violence. Wake up the MSA!

Unfortunately there were no attempts to conduct sincere constructive dialogues between the Gallaudet Administration and its stakeholders. The stakeholders have tried different ways to be heard, but they were steadfastly ignored, hence the protest. Just like DPN, too. MSA stated that Gallaudet must have a better system where the stakeholders can be heard and responded without restoring to protests to be heard because they were ignored. The paternalistic system must be discarded

It is easier for the Washington National Zoo to get accrediation from the American Association of Zoo and Aquarium than for Gallaudet to get accrediation from MSA. The students behaved worse than animals in captivity. The animals are well-fed, groomed, and their enclosures cleaned regularly. The students are well-educated but go on hunger strikes and vandalized the campus. People paid to see the animals in their natural habitit. If the animal doesn't fit in, they are either returned to the Wild or transfer to a different zoo. DVR paid to see their client in an educational environment. If the student don't fit in, go on SSI or transfer to another college. Zoo dependent on grants. Gallaudet dependent on Congress. Gallaudet is not Animal Farm nor is IKJ Big Brother out of 1984. Deaf have their own Culture but that doesn't mean that they be barbarians. What happens to the Roman Empire can be the fate of Gallaudet. Is there a Brutus among you. If Gallaudet don't received reaccrediation from MSA then MSA will translate into More Sorry Asses, get it.

Wonderful attitude you have, comparing students with animals.

Without a doubt students of ANY deaf place of learning need to watch their behavior, INCLUDING their ways of dressing. If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, it must be a duck.

When I was young, we at the deaf school ALWAYS tried to do just as good as hearing, and BETTER if we possibly could.

From my observation of the Gallaudet news controversy over the months, I can say that I am not exactly proud of how those students dressed (and behaved).

We deafies need to show some CLASS.

MSA does not oppose any protest provided that protesters do not lock classrooms. MSA believes in freedom of expression amongst students and faculty based on the U.S. Constitution. Jordan and other anti-protesters were wrong to oppose the protest because this is not a totalitarian country.

Jamie,

Remember the Boston Tea Party?

The lockdown and the takeover of HMB were entirely justified, because this was a social emergency. Gallaudet was on the brink of being destroyed by Jordan and Fernandes. The protesters saved it.

Therefore, the protesters are responsible for SUPPORTING open communication. They did what was necessary under the circumstances to keep Gallaudet open in the long run.

We had to close Gallaudet down in the short run, in order to keep it open in the long run.

If the MSA people don't understand that, then they are very ignorant people and should not be involved in accreditation processes.

Yes I remember the Boston Tea Party, they thrown teas overboard but they did not sink the ship. The students have a right to protest but not destroy an institution.

Jordan respect the student's grievances and he will not tolerate any vandalism nor disruption of students' rights to an education.

We deafies always think about negative things and history will point all all the positive things that Jordan did for Gallaudet. I remember who is the leader of DPN, nobody will remember the names of the recent protest leaders a generation from now.

The students did nothing but increase the stock value of manufactures that makes tents. The stakeholders are those who profit on wall street.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone start selling sweat-shirts with "Audist and Proud" with a Deafhood.

Will there be an Audist Anoynmous 12 steps program. Maybe a National Association of Audist Deaf (NAAD)

What is justified, a loss of MSA accredition, reduced Congressional support, tuition increases as a result of vandalism, etc.

MSA team are not ignorant, it is the students who are ignorant who are complaining about everything from food service to dorm life. When there is a problem, act on it now don't wait until things get worse when we have More Sorry Asses on campus.

Students heroes, I don't think so but more like Hogan's Heroes with DPS as their guards.

A thousand years from now, there will be a archaelogy discovery of Gallaudet unearthed remains of the institution reputation destroyed and of an extincted Deaf Culture meet the same fate as the Mayan civilization which once stood proud.

Are you upset that Gallaudet University is inviting Dr. Paddy Ladd to the 150th anniversary ceremony in April? Dr. Ladd will give a talk about "Deafhood."
I wouldn't be surprised that you will react and shout with anger.

Dr. Ladd a Crip or Blood. Is he from the hood of South Central Los Angeles? In all due respect I will stay off his turf. I ain't do no stomping on campus as I want no rap sheets. Thought I saw JKF on 14th Street, must've been my imagination gone wild in the DC jungle. Jordan last I heard was on a marathon run from Amman to Petra. I got a headache with the 28 channels cochlear implant. All I need to do is tap my head to get CNN or MTV. Had a Blackout trying to get the Chicago Bears game on ESPN. I'm growing old and feeble and can write no more and don't want to upstage Ridor as the most controversial and hope he isn't driving Ryder truck on the yellow brick road. Don't take me seriously as everything you see in this world is only an illussion. Just bought a book from Barnes & Nobles "Audists for Dummies." And I been had as all the pages are blank. Just read about a new technology called "Fill in the Blank" Captioning system at movie theatres where Deaf moviegoer can use their SideKick to key in a word that will fill in the blanks on screen. Pah! Pah! Pah! Just got back from the Doctor and he says I will be well but my fundamentalist interpreter says I'm going to hell. Doctor gave me a prescription but the interpreter gave me a tract. The Blog I read can be as scary as the Blob on Sci-fi. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Deaf World out there.

Deafhood is nothing miracle. Dr. Paddy Ladd had bad experienced about oral and he was unhappy.

Paddy Ladd is a Brit, personally I'd dump his view the same way Americans dumped the tea in Boston. His viewpoint has more mileage in America than here, maybe Americans love their buzz terms, we're more discerning and enquiring perhaps ! Deafhood and Audism are two terms we hardly ever use here... they divide deaf people, so Brits don't really support them.

I am like the Deaf Don Rickles and don't take things seriously and my writings are just that, entertainment. If you feel that I shouldn't make any comments in this manner then I wouldn't interfear in debates which is the original purpose of Deafread. By the way, Gallaudet dorms will not be coed for the 2007/08 year however SBG made a compromise allowing conjugal visits. Research shown that students are not taking advantages of the free condoms available from Student Health Service so effective immediately Viagra pills will be dispensed. Interpreter training students are not allowed to practice in the Rathskellar next to the jukebox everynight after became deaf enough to enrolled into Gallaudet. National Park rangers arrested several Gallaudet students at Yellowstone national park for trying to tip over Bisons on the range. Morman Deaf choir will be at the opening ceremony at the Deaflympics. Those students arrested for disorderly conduct have been sentenced to a semester at Capital Deaf Baptist College in Silver Spring. The swimming pool have been named after Jordan so we can accussed him for all the drownings he have caused. Freedom of the Seas will be world largest Deaf Cruise so how about it for those who couldn't afford it that we all meet at the Gallaudet Metro subway station for the world largest Deaf communters one morning. Dr. Davilla was able to raise funds by selling naming rights to buildings on campus, thus Peet Hall is now Pepsi Hall, Field House becomes the Nike Center, Microsoft Learning Center, and as for HMB, it is the Master Locks Memorial Building. Just visited Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD), watching students making model airplanes, Impressed by their HO model train layout, etc. That's all Deaf folks!

Anonymous,

WHY can't you identify yourself?

The British Empire had a good reasons to be infuriated with the Boston Tea Party participants for destroying the private property, ex. tea cargo boxes (tossed them away in open sea).

The Gally protestors did not damage the HMB building in any manners!

How sad of you making the comparsion of the Gally students to the captived animals within the zoo!

At least, captived animals are not really healthy creatures next to the natural environment which the heavenly creatures roam free.

Many thanks for the comparsion of Gally students and zoo animals. So you would understand why the zoo animals react aggressively from time to time. Confining the intelligent creature inside the unnatural environment and cause its physical and congentive health to be greatly compromised.

May your voice be heard, Jamie.

(That, as well as enrolment going down the drain. Who wants to send their children to a school that is always in turmoil?)

When I read comments here and I see references to the Boston Tea Party, by teens who obviously have ZERO knowledge of their own American history to utter such stupidities,

I am VERY worried of Gallaudet .

When the school will shutdown for good, it will be too late to lament about its closure.

I wish these professional troublemakers who have nothing else to do but tarnish Gallaudet's reputation would understand that.

For the good of the school they pretend to save.

If Gallaudet closes, everyone loses.
